Our 19th league win of the season now overtakes the 18 in total we achieved for the 2013/14 league campaign while finishing 10th!

Herne Bay 1-3 Faversham Town
Starting line up:
Rob French, Aidan Sherlock, Jamie Maxted, Matt Bourne, Ashley Brown, Josh Stanford, Wayne Wilson, Dave Botterill, Charley Robertson, Dean Grant, Kieran Oliver.
One of those difficult games to summarise. But I'll have a go. My opinion, we deserved the win. But it was, at times, tighter than the scoreline suggests. The pitch was difficult and certainly helped neither team. The referee was fussy - that didn't help the game either. So perhaps one of those games when it's all about the 3 points. Bag those and move on to the next game.
So, a bit more detail in an attempt to substantiate the above.
We start well. A flowing move, Josh Stanford receives the ball down the left, the cross into the box comes back out to Jamie Maxted, a low drive across the box, Dean Grant sliding in at the far post just can't quite connect. On 15 we're awarded a free-kick for a high challenge on Jamie Maxted. Wayne Wilson, free-kick from the right, Jamie Maxted wants it most and directs his header past the keepers' left hand into the side of the goal. 0-1 Luvverrly. Herne Bay earn a free-kick on their right, bundled home. The lino's flag on the opposite side is raised. Bay's effort is disallowed. Couldn't tell why from where I was. A defensive block by Josh Stanford, brought forward, Kieran Oliver is played in, drives forward, right to left ball, Charley Robertson is in, the shot brings a good stop from the Bay keeper. A fine end to end move. Quick, incisive football. A similar move follows, this time Jamie Maxted drives forward down the right (I have got that correct!!), tries to pick out Charley Robertson, just cut out by the Bay defence. But another flowing move. But Bay immediately counter and Rob French has to make a sharp save at this left hand post. Corner. 0-1 at H-T. And a deserved lead.
No flow in the second half. No doubting the effort, plenty of that. But the half seemed to be an endless number of throw ins and free-kicks-a large number for minor, if any, offence. Lots of really short passages of play. But even though we didn't necessarily threaten to increase our lead, Bay didn't look like breaking us down. On 25, Sam Bewick is on for Kieran Oliver. On 35 Charley Robertson makes way for Renford Tenyue-a welcome return. Renford chases down a lost cause and nearly makes something out of nothing when the keepers' poor clearance rebounds off of him. The ball eventually cleared safely. On 85 George Monger is on for Josh Stanford. Still no real chances either side. So, still 0-1, a stop-start 45 minutes, hardly any chances, 88 gone. And now, additional proof supporting the argument that you should never leave a game early. Bay, with nothing to lose, do start to press. A few decent moves. And then, an attack down their left, a low cross to the far post, met and in. The Bay fans cheer. The lino's flag is up, The Faversham fans cheer. The ref goes over to the lino, both sets of players go over to the lino. End result, ref gives the goal. So Gawd knows what was going on. Will we ever know? 1-1. So it's looking a repeat of our last visit to D'Bay. Then, we scored early, D'Bay equalised late. So 1-1 last year. 1-1 this year? But perhaps the next few minutes go part way to defining the difference between Faversham last year and this year. We're "eventually" awarded a corner from our left, (Bay were bringing the ball clear before the ref spotted the lino's flag). Wayne Wilson delivery and Aidan Sherlock forces home. Aidan is mobbed by the team - and why not - crucial goal. And then the icing on the proverbial cake. A poor defensive clearance, Sam Bewick collects, spots the keeper slightly off of is line, and from, I don't know, 28 yards, lets the ball drop to the floor and then absolutely leathers it. The ball arcs into the net. Glorious. Keeper can't get there, despite outstretched arm. Glorious, glorious goal. No, it was better than that. Yet another entry for the impressive list of FTFC goals of the season. So 1-3 at F-T.
So reasons to be cheerful: a) start the year off with an away win-can't be bad b) difficult pitch today, a battling performance. We can win these sorts of matches also. c) Sam Bewick's goal. Class. d) still top of the table.
I could go on!
Happy New Year All. See you at Salters Lane on Saturday. Chipstead visit.

Another excellent fan-based report dave. You've captured the relevant info and spirit of the occasion from our perspective perfectly.
Stat of the day: I've just been checking out all the other leagues / divisions from tiers 1 premiership through to 8 equivalent to our level throughout the country. With 72 league goals, we are the top scorers from any of the 16 different league tables involved. Two teams have 71 so the Sam Bewick "special" in the 95th minute makes the difference.

As I've always said - We're BETTER THAN CHELSEA!
And now it's official!
COME ON YOU WHITES!!
(PS We have also outscored every team in Serie A, The Bundesliga, La Liga, the French Ligue 1, The Australian A League, and more than anyone in the US Major League Soccer - and they've played a whole season!)
