Obviously with too much time on my hands this pre-xmas evening, I thought I'd answer my own poser from a few threads ago.
Bearing in mind we are currently top of the league, how many points have we gained from a losing position? Well, here goes ....
We've conceded the first goal in 14 of our 26 matches. Folkestone's 2nd goal in our recent home game was a re-taking of their lead. We've also been behind in a 15th match when Walton casuals came back after our opening goals to take the lead themselves.
Incredibly, we've only lost 3 out of these 15. There were 4 draws which apart from the points actually gained by us also stopped "top 5" teams Merstham, Folkestone and Whyteleafe taking maximum points themselves thus adding to their value. The fourth draw was the late equaliser at Walton casuals.
This means we've managed to win 8 of the 15 games in question so the "comeback" points are 28 of the total 56 so far. Incidentally, 14 points each from home / away fixtures. Indeed, 7 points from the last 3 matches!
Considering how tight the table may be in the promotion places at the end of April, I think the importance of these vital comebacks can't be over emphasised. I mean that in both terms of points received plus the ongoing spirit wthin the team to continue playing against adversity. At times, that is going to be needed during the next 4 months too!
In addition, to the league we've also won an important FA cup game from being just a couple of minutes away from being knocked out by Westfield.
Thanks to Thomas as I've taken my info from his website reports. Dave, you can still drink that bottle of wine you mentioned but now can relax at the same time instead of doing the research!
Happy Christmas to all FTFC fans. An exciting 2015 awaits us.
