Match preview - t.co/DBfWHq15B0Another really tough game against one of the better sides in the league! But, let's hope we can sign-off in our last home fixture before Christmas in style. Interestingly, looking ahead to next week, Burgess Hill are playing next Tuesday against Whyteleafe as they continue to try and catch-up on games in hand. Now that is a match I can Burgess Hill dropping points in after the fantastic 2-2 we had with them (Whyteleafe) earlier this season - they also drew with Folkestone recently. FAV Army!!

Big, Big Game. Some might use the M word, and they wouldn't be far wrong.
So. The plan for tomorrow:- Go in search of a Christmas Tree that satisfies all the rest of the household. This could take some time... Pay over the odds for a tree that looks just like all the other trees, but has magical needles that don't fall off before christmas eve. Honest guv. Begin searching for the lights that are in a box somewhere in the attic. Fret over whether the lights still work. No they don't. Hang on - Yes they do! Nope stopped again - must be a loose bulb.. Back on! (Realise at this point they are set to slow flash mode) Give up on the lights, give up on the tree, pop on a Santa hat to mark the occasion and head down to Salters Lane for the top of the table clash and a deserved glass of mulled wine.. Remember, with Burgess Hill still the only unbeaten team in the entire football pyramid, the winner of this game will officially be better than the best team in England. Period.
This is MASSIVE!
COME ON YOU WHITES!

1st v 3rd tomorrow. What a prospect. These are the games to whet the appetite.
We need Salters Lane behind the team big time tomorrow, a big shouty crowd, full of mulled wine and Xmas cheer etc. COYW.
Looking forward to seeing all the usual suspects at the halfway line. Good luck with the long distance trip Gary. Hope you make it back!!
They really don't get bigger than this. Again, COYW. Can't wait.

A couple of points from last week's Whitstable Times following the oyster boys' 3-0 defeat against Merstham: 1.Whitstable manager thought Merstham would win league. 2. Apparently a Merstham sub kept on encroaching the Whitstable technical area and getting in the way. He was politely asked to leave, he didn't, things got a bit heated resulting in the 'sending off' of the sub.

Faversham Town 1-1 Merstham
Starting line up: Simon Overland, Aidan Sherlock, Jamie Maxted, Matt Bourne, Ashley Brown, Geoge Monger, Wayne Wilson, Dave Botterill, Charley Robertson, Dean Grant, Jack Harris.
A cracking game. Two good sides, a great advert for football at this level. A decent crowd of 236, best of the day in R1S. Encouraging stuff.
Merstham arrived at Salters Lane with a) a fearsome reputation in R1S, unbeaten in, well ages b) rumours of a poor disciplinary record. It's Merstham who start the better. A 30 yard piledriver parried over by Simon Overland for a corner. We respond, a Wayne Wilson free-kick, our left, met by Jamie Maxted, the header across goal is just wide. Good chance. But Merstham are in the ascendency, a strike on our goal, Simon Overland makes another save to his right. Good save. We get in a bit of a mess defensively, from a corner, a clearance off the line is necessary. And then we're carved open, a slick Merstham move down their right, we don't get a challenge in, and the ball is slotted home at the near post. We're 0-1 down. We'd been standing off Merstham, letting them play, a change, now, we're at them. And it reaps dividends. A deep Wayne Wilson corner from the left to the back stick, Jamie Maxted's downward header is in. Huge celebrations. Goal scoring left-back scores against Merstham again. Fantastic!!! Now Merstham are on the back foot. A Wayne Wilson corner, a Dave Botterill header, going in, the Merstham keeper somehow gets a hand to it. Good save. Back in, and Merstham clear off the line. Charley Robertson does well down the right, wins the ball and drives forward, on his own so elects for the shot, just wide of the far post. A Wayne Wilson free-kick from the left, comes out to Matt Bourne, the strike is good, going in, deflected over the bar. The resultant corner requires Merstham to clear off the line. H-T 1-1
Second half. And chances come our way. George Monger tees up Wayne Wilson volley. Into the keepers midriff. A Waynes Wilson corner, Jack Harris meets, the header hits the post. A bit of controversy, Jack Harris is fouled on the edge of the area, the ball is played out to the right and hammered home (didn't see by whom). Goal. Referee pulls it back for a free-kick. Tight call. With 10 minutes to go the rumours relating to Merstham's disciplinary problems are given substance when their no. 11 gets a red. With 10 to go Charley Robertson makes way for Kieran Oliver. F-T 1-1
So reasons to be cheerful:
a) well the mighty Merstham arrive, clearly a good side, but apart from the first 20/25 we were the better team. A really good game. We had the majority of the better chances-a fine performance. b) 236 - best attendance in R1s - fantastic. c) personal opinion alert - we had the better chances today, so close to a deserved win.

Good assessment from dave and I look forward to viewing those close shaves in the six yard boxes today on the match video soon. Kentishfootball.co.uk were also at the game so for "greater detail" and interviews with the managers suggest that's worth visiting.

Agree with Dave that it was a great game and great advert for the Ryman South! Agree with 4500X about Steve McCartney's excllent report on the Kentishfootball website. Here is the link - www.kentishfootball.co.uk/mambo/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=10455&Itemid=38Here is the link to our own match report too (without interviews unfortunately. They wouldn't have been in that amount of detail anyway! Match video link and hopefully some pictures to follow though.) - www.favershamtownfc.co.uk/Match%20Reports/131214%20FTFC%20vs%20Merstham.html It's a shame that we couldn't quite find that winner. But, I would have taken a point pre-kick-off and would have taken four points out of six off Merstham if you had offered me it in pre-season! P.S. Thought Jamie was outstanding - a big player with a big performance in a big match. Now, it's time to rack up some wins over Christmas! FAV Army!

A great match to watch but we've got to thank the ref for giving our goal because that useless linesman was not going to give it.Apart from that i think we shaded the game and we know how to beat them should we meet in the play-offs.Plenty of crosses as their keeper was just flapping about not knowing what to do.

Just visited Mersthams website to read the report on the match and had one of the best laughs i've had in ages.Lets just say their reporter might have been watching the game from one sides perspective.

Hi Tony yes i saw that report on their website the other day as well and whoever did their match report must have watched the game through rose tinted specs. To say it was a poor biased report is an understatement, certainly made me laugh as well. Very comical.
