What a very enjoyable evening spent at the Homelands stadium yesterday evening.
Results in friendlies mean very little. This being our first in the series with several still to go so it won't define our season at all.
However, it was great to see so many familiar faces from last season, hear news of others not there on the night but due to come back plus see bright performances from some players I know little about so far - presumably including some from under 21 squad.
Can't pretend it was perfect - never going to be that especially as only 12th July. The first half was a fairly even affair against a team who will no doubt be near the top of their league come April 2017. Both teams creating chances yet all wasted (habit we need to address after last season). At the start of the second half there were two good goals from Liam King and Luke Harvey and from there onwards we took greater control over proceedings. Later on, the numerous changes in personal didn't spoil our flow and no-one looked out of place in my eyes.
Thank you to the whole squad and keep on battling for those places. Good to see strength in depth and genuine cover for positions all over the park. Pleased to see Will Godman still around and he made one especially good save during the first half. A special word for Simon Overland too who come on for the last 20 minutes or so to make his first "first team" appearance since his injury at xmas 2014.
Must say it was also wonderful to catch up with friendly faces off the pitch too, management plus fans alike.
Going back to my original sentence - very enjoyable evening indeed! Looking forward to another very enjoyable and successful season.
