I thought I would get this one underway nice and early, in case there are any Guernsey fans (mainlanders or islanders) that want to get involved.
I had given up looking at the league table before the Dorking game and haven't actually looked at it since - quite frankly, as it always is at this stage of the season, it is a mess!
We might be 10th or 11th or whatever but there are plenty of teams like Guernsey and I think South Park, who were close behind us but have two or three matches in hand.
In fact, I'm sure South Park were in a similar position this time last year before they were hit by postponements in the winter and lost their momentum.
Instead, I decided to do some maths on what is usually enough to make the Play-off places.
So, here's what I worked out:
We are on 23 points off 15 league games.
Therefore we have 31 league fixtures left to play this season and, based over the last two seasons (ignoring anything further back because back then we only played 42 league matches a season), a total of 81 points has been enough to make the Play-offs.
Actually, let's not leave anything to chance. We'll set 83 as the target.
So, that's 60 points required from 31 games at just under two points per game!
Based on last season's final league table, over the course of the entire campaign, Whyteleafe were the only team in the top five to average less than two points a game - so, is it impossible? Definitely not.
Anyway, back to Saturday.
Interestingly, after we were beaten on Monday playing our second match in three days, Guernsey are actually at home to Molesey tonight!
That means on the flip side, they will have just two full days rest before Saturday's match - and that is assuming they fly out Saturday morning. In contrast, we would have had about double the amount of time to prepare.
Guernsey are a good team for this level but this does appear to be their level, having been here for a few seasons now.
Whereas, we showed we can compete with anybody in this league in the two games against Folkestone.
It's now up to us to show that Monday was just a blip because we had been improving game on game since the Dorking win, beforehand.
Ashley Brown wasn't involved on Monday but, if he does return on Saturday and plays along with Botts and Matt Bourne, between the three of them by my maths (MB - 246, DB - 260 and AB - 262) the three of them will move onto 770 club appearances between the three of them.
I know Liam Friend has played something around 300 for Folkestone and some people have suggested Scott Heard at Whitstable has reached/will reach some kind of landmark soon - I thought it was 250 but that doesn't make sense because he is only early to mid 20's - but what other club can add the total club appearances of three players together in this league and come to a similar number?!
In fact, that's not all because the likes of Jamie Maxted and Wayne Wilson could make 150 if they play regularly until the end of the season, while Simon Overland is already past 150.
You don't get to play that amount of games for any club without being a real quality player but we will have to show that quality if we are to take all three points on Saturday and actually over the next seven fixtures because it doesn't get any easier in the next few weeks.
But we do tend to raise our against the better sides, so maybe we will go on a seven-match winning run
See you on Saturday.

P.S. Don't forget. 2pm kick-off!
