No rest for the wicked,eh?
The fixture list hasn't been particularly kind to us, throwing up a Monday night fixture that just so happens to be coming just over 48 hours after we beat the league leaders!
I believe that Carshalton are now playing on a 3G pitch (or at least have plans to get one) but I haven't had time to do any research yet with this game coming so quickly after Saturday.
Our record actually has been reasonable on artificial pitches as far as I can remember (we beat Worthing this season, drew 2-2 with Whyteleafe in a fantastic match last season and, of course, beat Maidstone in the league... Even if they did get the ultimate revenge in the play-off final, a few years ago).
From memory, I can only think of one occasion when we have played on a Monday before!
It was two seasons ago at Hastings and we dominated a 0-0 when Luke Harvey had a goal ruled out.
I guess the encouraging thing about playing so quickly after Monday is that we actually were nowhere near full strength on Saturday - hopefully, Cooper will be fit, Scarborough will be back from suspension and the likes of Grant and Botts should be fresh (along with the under-21 players not involved on Saturday, which may mean having Saturday's U21 match was a real blessing in disguise).
Some of the young boys - like Carrington and Liam King - have also been involved in Saturday first-team fixtures after playing under-21 football on the Thursday this term.
Of course, that doesn't hide the fact we have played twice in three days and Saturday against Guernsey will be tough too.
I don't understand why teams try Monday football, to be honest.
I suppose, if what you're currently doing isn't working, you have to try something different. But, if I was a casual groundhopper that made one match during mid-week and then went to another ground on a Saturday, the last day I would want to go out in the cold winter months is a Monday night and playing on a Monday is hardly going to entice those in education (at school, college, university etc) to come along.
Anyway, back to tomorrow.
Frankly, I think I would take four points from the next two games if it helps get an unbeaten run going.
See the hardy-souls making the journey tomorrow.
