Faversham Town 2-1 Dorking Wanderers
Starting line up:
William Godmon,
Ryan Cooper, Ashley Brown, Matt Bourne, John Scarborough, Jamie Maxted,
George Monger, Dan Carrington, Wayne Wilson,
Stuart King, Charley Robertson.
A really fine, fine team performance. Superb. And this time, we get the win the performance
deserved. And whilst I sit, tapping away on my keyboard, the bottle of beer I'm consuming tastes
particulary good this evening.
So, some detail.
Early doors, Dorking enjoyed plenty of possession, knocked it about nicely. They appeared a
team playing with confidence. But we kept our shape and worked hard. And the chances start to come.
Dorking's inclination for playing acrpss the back gifts us our first chance.
A suicidal ball across the goal is picked up by Charley Robertson, the cross is beyond Stuart King,
Stuart retrieves, but can't quite get a shot away.
At the other end, we concede a free-kick on the corner of our box, our right. Decent
strike, not far away from our left hand post. And on 18, Charley Robertson runs at the heart of
Dorking's defense, a body check brings the run to an illegal end. Wayne Wilson's free-kick is
defended, comes back out, Wayne challenges and wins the ball back, spreads the ball out to
Ryan Cooper on our left, lovely cross finds Stuart King, right side, inside the box. Stuart gets
it onto his left and unleashes a strike which curls into the far side of the net. Emphatic finish.
Cue celebrations on the pitch, touchline and in the stands. Fantastic goal.
A Dorking free-kick at the other end, hits the wall, in the ensuing clear up we almost gift Dorking
an equaliser, Ryan Coopers' backward header intended for William Godmon, evades our keeper as he
comes to retrieve, it's heading into our unguarded net, but our keeper gets back and scoops it off
the line. Close call. Stuart King, our right, feeds George Monger inside, spread wide to Jamie
Maxted out on out left, the pull back into the box is met by Wayne Wilson, the strike is well saved
by the keeper. Really fine move though, deserved a goal. Stuart King does well down the right, gets the
cross in, Jamie Maxted gets into the box, passed two defenders, get a shot away, goal bound, heading for the top left hand corner, but the keeper claws it away for a corner.
1-0 at H-T.
We start the second half as we finished the first. Dan Carrington breaks through the Dorking defense.
We're through, in on goal. Elects to try and find Stuart King, but the pass has to much on it and the
chance is gone. We're looking in control of the game. But, on 57 we concede possession in midfield, Dorking
break through the middle, edge of our box, our keeper comes to meet, gets a right hand to it, but still the
strike has enough on it to find our net. The ball seems to take an age to go in. Seemed a bit of an odd/soft
goal to concede and against the run of play. As a fellow Shouty remarked, the passage of play leading to
the Dorking equaliser, seemed totally out of context with everything that had gone before. So, Game On.
Charley Robertson nearly capitilises on a mix up in the Dorking defense, the shot is just shy of the
left hand post. More chances. Stuart King, our right, finds Wayne Wilson, edge of the box, the keeper
comes and makes a decent block. A poor keeper clearance, ball into the box, Wayne Wilson, close range,
but their keeper redeems himself with a fine save. And with 15 to go, Charley Robertson runs with the ball,
finds Ryan Cooper/Stuart King central, edge of the area, Ryan Cooper sells a dummy and Stuart King is in.
The strike finds the bottom right hand corner. Keeper gets a slight touch on it, but not enough.
Stuart King is subject to a team mobbing. Fantastic stuff.
Charley Robertson's low cross, is almost headed into his own net by a Dorking defender.
One final chance for Dorking, a strong run down their right, a dangerous low ball into the area, right
across our goal, but nobody on hand to convert. Substitution, Stuart King makes way for Liam King.
And we finish with a flourish, a fine passing move, Charley Robertson inside to Wayne Wilson, similar
to George Monger, the pass takes out the defense, Liam King is in on goal, but the shot curls just wide
of the right hand post. Fine move. Dan King is a late replacement for Wayne Wilson.
2-1 at F-T.
So, reasons to be cheerful - this should write itself today.
a) without wishing to sound repetitive. Another really fine team performance. Spot on today.
b) Goals!!! And fine ones at that
c) Convincing victory against the league's highest scorers.
d) a decent crowd to witness it all - let's hope they'll return.
e) and a fantastic result. Thoroughly deserved.
Sponsor's MOM: Stuart King.
And finally. I said that (celebratory) beer tasted good. Well, so does the one after that.
A toast is in order I feel. To FTFC and a fine victory. Cheers.
See you on Tuesday. Folkestone visit in the Robert Dyas League Cup.
