Staines Town 2-2 Faversham Town
Starting line up:
Rob French, Ryan Cooper, Jamie Maxted, Matt Bourne, Dan Carrington, Taser Hassan, George Monger, Wayne Wilson, Renford Tenyue, Stuart King, Dean Grant.
Another away tie in the FA Cup. This seems to be a suspiciously regular occurrence. So, an early start at Salters Lane to make the alleged one and a half hour trip to Staines. Well, actually three hours. So plenty of time for in depth, en-route analysis. To cut a (very) long story short, there seems to be a general agreement that a decent result will be to bring Staines back to Salters Lane on Tuesday.
So first half. Fantastic start. We win an early free-kick, our right. Wayne Wilson swings the ball into the area, Jamie Maxted finds space and directs the header home. Simplicity itself. Glorious goal. So, four minutes in and 0-1. On 11, good work from Stuart King down the right, beats two men and delivers the cross, Dean Grant gets in before his marker to head home at the near post. Dream start, 2 fine goals. More chances. Stuart King flicks on for Dean Grant, finds Renford Tenyue in space, Renford is closed down but gets a shot away. Keeper saves with his legs, corner. The corner results in another corner. From the right. Wayne Wilson takes, ball reaches Matt Bourne in the box, decent strike, but the keeper makes a really good save. Good chance. From the right, a long throw from Ryan Cooper, headed out by their defense, Renford Tenyue tries his luck from distance, wide, but not that wide. So we could be 3-0, maybe 4-0. But on 41, Staines attack down their left, a cross field ball, their 7 travels, corner of the box, just outside unleashes an unstoppable shot across goal, high into the corner of our net.
1-2 at H-T.
Second half and Staines come out on the front foot. The pressure is building and on 55 we concede. A deep cross from their right, the ball is headed back across goal, and headed in from close range at the right hand post. 2-2. On 60, Bradley Webb is on for Taser Hassan. Still we're called on to defend. A cross from the right is met at pace, just wide of our right hand post. Hearts in mouths time. Another ball into our box and Jamie Maxted is called upon to make an important interception. Kicked out for a corner. But it's not all defence, Dean Grant wins us a free-kick near the byline. Wayne Wilson crosses, Jamie Maxted meets, but heads over. A corner, our left, Wayne Wilson delivers, comes out to Bradley Webb, the shot, on target but not too much power on it, their keeper saves uunconvincingly with his feet. Dave Botterill is a late substitution for Renford Tenyue.
2-2 at F-T.
So, in my view, we've acquitted ourselves really well and fully deserve our draw against higher level opposition. Let's not forget Staines were playing Conference South football in 2014/15. But for a wonder strike, we might have already booked our place in the next round. But we go again at Salters Lane on Tuesday.
So reasons to be cheerful:
a) We've fully deserved a replay and are alive and kicking in the FA Cup. b) to be competing with these teams really is a testament to how far we've come. c) an all round good day d) my voice has just about given up the ghost now, but there's another cold beer in the fridge for soothing purposes. Fab. and last and definitely by no means least e) Joe's rousing rendition of "Happy Birthday To Willo" on the coach homewards. Priceless.
And finally, if you're reading this and have ever considered getting down to Salters Lane, but haven't yet done so. This Tuesday really is the time. 19.45 kick-off. Big night. See you there.

Nice to see the interviews, and it's always fun to hear commentators (understandably) naming all the wrong players, but I think I can say without prejudice that the quality of CJK's camera work is undoubtedly the better of the two.
Onwards to Tuesday night for the replay. Let's make it a noisy reception!
COME ON YOU WHITES!!

Right. No point creating a new thread for the Replay.
The winners of this tie will be away at Needham Market (of the Ryman Premier League) or Stanway Rovers (of the Eastern Counties League Premier Division).
So, it doesn't get any easier.
But, if the prospect of £3,000 prize money and progressing into the next round isn't enough motivation, how about another £4,500 if we win in the next Round?
It won't be easy to get past either side but it is possible.
See you tomorrow, let's really get behind the boys.

Full-time score: Faversham Town 1 (Grant) Staines 3.
Not quite our night.
I don't think we played particularly badly but Staines were much better tonight than they were on Saturday.
Let's hope we can repeat Saturday's performance in the league and stay at the business end of the table.

Staines beat Gloucester in the fourth qualifying round today so will be in the draw for the first round proper on Monday. To think we were 2-0 up within 15 minutes at their place and good value for the eventual result in the original match.

Ultimately, the FA Cup hasn't been very kind to us over the past few seasons!
Yes - we were 2-0 up early on against Staines this season but we also managed to draw a strong Ryman Premier League side at the earliest possible stage in the cup, while some of our nearest neighbours drew Deal Town and Rochester United (even in the next round, Herne Bay drew Hastings)!
We were also unlucky because Staines had been struggling up until they turned their form around in the game against us.
I had been speaking to a friend before the game who supports Brentwood Town - the same Brentwood that had embarrassed Staines in a 7-0 win, the week before Staines played us!
He said we would be more than a match for Staines, which was more than the case, particularly early on.
However, that wonder goal that brought them back into the match has completely turned around Staines' season - they have only lost twice since and one of those defeats came in the League Cup.
I would have fancied our chances against East Thurrock had it been us that progressed, particularly at our place.
But, although I'm not saying we wouldn't have been capable of pulling of an upset, I dare say that getting past Gloucester City would have been an even tougher challenge than the two matches against Staines proved to be.
Leyton Orient is an excellent first round draw but they are flying high in League Two this season (really they are a League One club) so, realistically, I can't see them losing to Staines, unless over-confidence sets in.
But, of course, stranger things have happened and the magic of the FA Cup may take hold...
Let's hope it takes hold of us next season!
