Faversham Town manager Ray Turner has been able to confirm the initial squad details for the 2015/16 season.
They are as follows:
Goalkeepers
Rob French.
Simon Overland.
Tom Benham.
Defenders
Matt Bourne.
John Scarborough.
Jamie Maxted.
Ryan Cooper.
Ashley Brown.
Freeman Rogers.
Midfielders
Wayne Wilson.
George Monger.
Dave Botterill.
Chris Webber.
Taser Hassan.
Dan King.
Ollie Brown.
Mobolaji (Bola) Dawodu.
Forwards
Dean Grant.
Stuart King.
Renford Tenyue.
Joe Lester.
“There are a couple of new names to introduce supporters to,” said Turner.
“I have added Ryan Cooper from Leatherhead. I needed to add another defender with Ashley Brown not returning from America until September. Ryan brings experience from the league above after a couple of seasons at Leatherhead and will add real drive and energy to the right hand side of the team. I have tracked his career and I am delighted to get him down to Faversham for the coming season.
“He is joined by Taser Hassan signed from Hastings. Taser will give the team the wide option I was looking for to replace Josh (Stanford) and Charley (Robertson), incidentally both Taser and Ryan played down the right hand side for Hythe's successful side under Scott Porter.
“Ollie Brown comes in from Maidstone, where he was involved in a few games for them last season. He is a local lad with great prospects playing either at centre half or central midfield. I know you will join me in welcoming those players to the club.
“I can also confirm the re-signing of Bola after his return from University. Bola is a fine addition to the squad.”
Turner added, “There will be more additions I am sure.
“We have 3 players who have been released by pro clubs currently training with us and we will monitor that situation throughout the summer. It is my belief that we are stronger as a squad than we were at the beginning of last season and I thank the players for the loyalty they have shown to the project. We will now collectively get our heads down, work hard and prepare for the season. We have created a fantastic working environment at this club and the players have recognised this and want to progress further and bring more success to the club.
“There are claims every season by players that their side will win the league, it has been noted, we know only too well the tough nature of this league. So, there will be no such claims from me, only that we have a brilliant group of players here who are prepared to work hard to improve every aspect of their performance. Attitudes have been positive and focused as I would expect during pre-season and the boys are now ready for the first game, which will come this Saturday at Lydd.”
“On the subject of pre-season games, the fixture at Ashford has been cancelled due to the ongoing works to put down their new surface,” Turner continued.
“We have not been able to re-arrange this fixture because of our scheduled games, so I have replaced that with a fixture against Faversham Strike Force. This will be played at the Abbey School on their 3G pitch on Tuesday 21st July kicking off at 7.30.
“The club continues to move forward, planning permission has been submitted for the new changing rooms and we are in the process of signing a new lease for 125 years. These are significant times for the Football Club. We now need your continued support. We managed to average over 220 at home games last season and the atmosphere generated inside the ground was brilliant. Let’s all try and bring even more into the ground to enjoy the matchday experience at Salters Lane. I hope to see you all at the Maidstone game on the 28th.
“Ray.”
Some very exciting signings and good also to see the core of last season's squad back too.
I am particularly pleased to see Bola return.
When he was with the Reserves 3/4 seasons ago, he started the season as a capable right-back but quickly became a real threat going forward, moved to the right wing and broke into the first-team for a while, despite still being 17 at the time.
Hopefully, he can reproduce some of that form because I feel - and anybody who can remember him from the Reserves will probably agree - he (along with Joe Lester I should point out) have bags of potential.
So, it will be interesting to see how they go this season.
